FAQs: What you need to know

WHAT HOURS ARE AVAILABLE?
You can sign up to work 9 am to 3:30 pm on Saturdays from April through August (days available listed above).

IS THERE A CHARGE?
No, there is no charge for participating. However, we'd like to suggest a donation of $50 per group which helps cover the costs of supplies for these projects.

WHERE WILL WE BE WORKING?
Work sites will be at various low income homes in southern Chester County, PA and New Castle County, DE.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
Volunteer tasks will include light construction, light carpentry work, yard work and roofing work (single story, walkable pitched roofs). No experience or specific skills are required.  All work sites are led and supervised by licensed and trained project managers from Good Neighbors Home Repair.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE?
We ask that all participants be 14 years and older to participate. If youth are under 18 years of age, we ask that they be a guardian for every group of 4 youth under 18 years of age.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR? WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?
Please wear work clothes and closed toe shoes.  Be prepared to be outside. While we have these tools, you may bring your own hammers and nail bags, gloves and safety glasses. Also, bring a packed lunch and beverages.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS IS GOOD NEIGHBORS TAKING AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19?
Here is an excerpt from our Covid-19 page:
  1. Social distancing will be highly encouraged between groups, individuals, and Project Managers to the best of the participant’s abilities. This is in adherence to local government safety recommendations.
  2. Masks will be optional on the worksite, although we recommend to not wear them for two reasons.
    1. PA and DE heat in the summer months can be dangerous for persons who do not engage in home repair work consistently. Unhindered breathing, water in-take, and free communication are necessary for smart and safe worksite operations.
    2. If social distancing can be maintained, our need for masks is dramatically reduced.

WHERE DO WE START?
It's simple! Fill out the form above and we will be in touch to help you schedule your Community Day with Good Neighbors.
